Crowner House

The old Crowner House on Highland Avenue is gone!! Now owned by Steuben Trust, the old house has definitely seen better days. We cannot positively date this house, but a house is shown in this location on the 1869 map of Wellsville. We know from the 1870 census that John and Anna Sexton Crowner lived in this location, though we cannot say it was THIS house. We do know that at one time the house was considered a true showplace, with white pillars supporting a roof porch, the tenant house for the farm was to the side of the house. In 1938, the entire house was remodeled into apartments...... And now, we must say goodbye.
