James F. Paddock photographed the aftermath of the deadly fire at the Sinclair Refining Company in Wellsville, NY. The 25 negatives donated to ACHS by his two daughters, Ann M. & Virginia L. Paddock of Rochester NY produce a story of devistation.
They did not know if any prints were ever made from the negatives since cameras were not encouraged within the gates of the Refinery. They did not know what the negatives would produce as images.
In December, 2012, The negatives were reverse scanned by William A. Greene for ACHS and the results are applied here as a collection. It is obvious after viewing the results that some of the photos have been on thewebsite for several years which were scanned copies from prints owned by Dan Nicholson of Stannards, now deceased. It is uncertain where the prints that Dan owned came from. If you can add information about the photos please email: alleganychs@gmail.com
